This year’s Regatta was attended by over 100 eager participants and onlookers! Keeping with tradition, the events started with the canoe & kayak race (with a repeat overall first place to Paul & Tim from the Arnold cottage) and wound up with the Mainland versus Peninsula tug-of-war, first with the young ones and then the more experienced (In the spirit of good sportsmanship & Oxbow Lake fellowship, we won’t post those results!). This year featured Winter Olympics on Oxbow with adapted events for summer fun including curling, hockey and a couple of fun team ski activities! The coveted Sinclair Cup for the farthest bean bag toss was returned to the Gordon cottage. The grand finale was the awards ceremony, where the highly-prized birch medallions were presented.
The Regatta took place on the Sunday of Civic Holiday weekend, August 1st. Special thanks to the Oxbow Lakeside Community Club for once again allowing this to be held on their waterfront – a great location with lots of space for all the activities. Regatta coordinators, Peter and Angie Heydon, also thank the other volunteers who make this Regatta special – Bruce Cameron for running the canoe & kayak race, the McRobbie family for the tug-of-war rope, the Wylie family for continuing to produce the priceless medallions, and Lynda Arnold for publicizing the event.
