Oxbow Lake is a special place where people care! Our motto is: respecting, preserving, enjoying. We are collectively responsible for preserving our shared environment. While recreation and fun are an integral part of the cottage experience, some come up to simply relax and enjoy the tranquility of the near-wilderness. Also, guests and occasional visitors may not be aware of the lake etiquette & cottage safety. With some mutual respect and consideration, we can ensure that our activities do not diminish the enjoyment for others.
Specifically, we ask that all Lake users respect the following:
Keeping our lake water clean (good guidelines under website “Preserving Oxbow” header)
Avoiding any wake in the narrows of Oxbow lake (speed of 10 km/h when transiting to open water)
Refraining from excessive noise due to music, shouting, swearing etc. that impacts the enjoyment of other lake users (also quiet hours between 11pm and 7am)
Observing fire safety levels posted at Firehall #30, and on the home page of the website.
Preserving shoreline vegetation
Remembering the lake is not a driving range, or for target practice
Picking up roadside litter and flotsam (shoreline & floating garbage)
Observing the speed limits on our roads (for safety, noise, and dust control)
Using the waste transfer station for garbage, recycling and brush (no dumping)
Supporting OLCA, its volunteers
Allowing wildlife to be wild (no feeding or food waste left around)
Keeping pets quiet and on-property
Obtaining permits, and using best practices when it comes to regulated activities such as boating, construction, fishing, hunting, septic systems, etc.
