LAKE OF BAYS, ON – Fire Station 50 Interlaken is nearly $20,000 richer thanks to an outpouring of community support.
The money was raised at a BBQ and silent auction on Saturday July 28th at the home of David and Ginny Burgess on Bella Lake. The funds will go towards the replacement and fitting out of the existing Rescue 51 four-wheel-drive vehicle. “We’re absolutely thrilled,” said Murray Arnold, Acting Captain of the Lake of Bays Fire Station 50 Interlaken. “The event was a huge success and speaks to the importance of the fire service to the local community.” More than 230 people attended the sold-out fundraiser, which featured musical entertainment by the trio “Champagne.” But the highlight of the evening was the silent auction. Residents and local businesses donated more than 70 items, including works by several Artists of the Limberlost. Lake of Bays Councillor Ginny Burgess said the event wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiastic support of the firefighters themselves plus volunteers from the Bella/Rebecca community, the Oxbow Lake Cottagers’ Association and the Tasso/Toad/Camp/Blue Lakes Association. “The fundraising event was successful not just monetarily, but also in pulling the community together for a worthy cause,” said Burgess. “It shows our gratitude for the dedication and service of our volunteer firefighters.”
