Friends & fellow residents of Sinclair/Finlayson Ward; It was pointed out to me earlier this morning by my dear friend Lynda that I have been quiet of late....that's not like me, but I will confess my days are hectic and add to that over the past 2 weeks I have been battling a bad cold (not covid) so I've been limiting my travels. That being said, there are so many great things to share with you, some are still works in progress so they're for another day, some are Council related and some simply good news stories I am involved with that I wish to share....like this one; Food4Kids Muskoka; For those who perhaps are not aware of this organization, we are all aware of the issues of food insecurity and in our school aged kids it has been a huge issue for several years. Wearing our 'hats' as Lions, Kiwanis or Rotary, the breakfast and healthy snacks during school times have been helping, but not enough, and what about those same students on a weekend or a school break? This where Food4Kids Muskoka is stepping up to assist for those most in need. I am a Director and founding partner in this group but in full disclosure the heavy lifting has been done by our leader, Sarah Thatcher, resident of Huntsville and recently stepped away from teaching to try to be working on this issue. We agreed as the initial 3 founding partners to start small, target 3 local schools and offer our help, then expand in year 2 and so on if it was successful.....well after the second week we have helped 24 kids in HPS, Pine Glen and Spruce Glen to get through the weekend with food. That may not seem like much but its the process, the volunteers and the preparation that is going to make this the huge success that we are anticipating. To that end we are now announcing we have expanded the program to Irwin Memorial PS in Dwight, starting next week....so yes it is working. Here's some facts for you to here and opportunities for those who would like to get involved;
Our local community has united to tackle a crucial issue that has gone unnoticed for too long. Sadly, many children in our area leave school on Fridays with the knowledge that their family m… veritascharityservices.com
Tim Horton's is launching a Holiday Cookie Campaign this season (similar to the Smile Cookie) and we have been fortunate enough to be sharing the proceeds of this years campaign with Tim Horton Charity...so Holiday Cookie Campaign is able to be advertised now - so if you are interested, or have a group who might be interested in dressing cookies, let me know, or feel free to share info and help us to sell cookies now, I have the forms available. We would love anyone to let us know connections at BIG factories as those hungry workers will need cookies 🙂 Final thought on Food4 Kids Muskoka, Kristie is my sidekick who will be setting up the weekly packing and driving schedules - please advise if you would like to help in any way. As I shared already, this is a team effort but lead by a very dynamic lady, who stepped away from teaching last year to get on this mission, and it has taken off....and now surrounding herself with like-minded folks who together are following her lead. Check out www.food4kids.ca to see where Food4Kids are currently being offered and then click on our website for here in Muskoka...as our goal IS Muskoka. As for Updates wearing my Councillor 'hat'.....attached is my Thanksgiving Report. Enjoy!
