Fellow Residents;
It's been a while since some of you have heard from me, so its time to correct that. Given we have so much going on in Lake of Bays and especially in our neck of the woods...starting with this notification; 1) *Update* - Highway 35 Closure Due to Washout A Stakeholder Relations Advisor from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) has informed the Township of Lake of Bays that repairs for the closed section of Highway 35 are estimated to take 2-3 days. The cause of the washout is not confirmed and is currently under investigation. The entrances onto Highway 35 from Highway 60 and Highway 117 continue to be restricted for use by local traffic only. Read this article on our website below; https://www.lakeofbays.on.ca/news/posts/starupdatestar-highway-35-closure-due-to-washout/ 2) Update from Council of earlier today Those who can, you really should be catching our Council meetings, we are always live and available for you to watch. There is always the ability to go back to catch up on decisions and issues because all meetings are archived and available on the website. Speaking of the website, if you haven't checked it out recently, it has been totally revamped....and extremely user friendly. The main article to share from today's council was CAO Bryan Brown's Report on the business of the Township for 2023. It was excellent, well orchestrated and very informative. Residents should be glad to know that all objectives of Council for 2023 were accomplished and we even had some savings from projects that allowed staff to get a head start on 2024 projects. I encourage you to check it out; https://lakeofbays.civicweb.net/FileStorage/FDDD7CAE2B5741188278B8AC62BB3D65-Township%20of%20Lake%20of%20Bays%202023%20Annual%20Report%20of%20.pdf if you want to check out other events, projects and accomplishments, please go to the website, check us out, this is YOUR Township at work. lakeofbays.on.ca 3) Bell Fibe You may have been noticing a number of DAVEY trucks over the past few weeks. I have spoken to them and the reason they are here is they have been contracted to clear below lines for Bell as the expectation is that Bell will be introducing Bell Fibe in some of our areas, including the roads off Limberlost Road. There is no defined time frame, however the expectation is within 2 years. The suggestion is for those who might benefit from this upgraded service, to contact Bell and get your address in their system. The more in an area expressing an interest, probably makes their decision much easier. 4) Half Loads & ATV's As you should be aware, we are currently in 'half load season', which limits the large commercial vehicles from designated roads and all affected roads are posted as such. the reason is to help our roads to get through the shoulder season with a limited amount of damage a the frost comes out and the surface gets muddy. The issue can be made even worse when people trade their snowmobile for an ATV and ride the roads at this time of the season and can create hazardous conditions, similar to the large trucks. People need to understand the ATV season does not start until May 1st....not in March, regardless of how nice the weather is. Here is an excerpt from By-Law 2016-041; "Off-Road Vehicles shall be permitted only between May 1st, to December 31st, between sunrise and sunset, on the shoulder (or move to the right hand side of the travelled portion on the Municipal Highway, except roads described in Schedule “A” , only if the shoulder is impassable or unsafe) of such Municipal Highways under the jurisdiction of The Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays. " Again, please check out the Lake of Bays website, insert 'By-Law 2016-041' in the search bar and the bylaw is there to read...awesome. 5) ‘Ash Muskoka’ Ash Drop off – Saturday, March 16th: If you are not familiar with the program, its part of the ‘Friends of the Muskoka Watershed’ and is encouraging all who heat with wood to consider bringing them your ash. The facts are very encouraging given the effects of ‘seeding’ the grounds around our maple trees are having a huge impact on the nutrients in the soil. The hours are 9:30 AM - 1:00PM, Rosewarne Transfer Station, Bracebridge. (Taylor Road Exit) Check it out: [email protected] Final thoughts: I have recently submitted an activity report to our friends at WAPLAA, but updates continue these days, so I will be back in touch with all lake and neighborhood associations with an activity report in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime, given its also still syrup season, I may not be available right then, but please leave me a message and I will get back to you as promptly as possible. All the best, Rick Brooks, Councillor Sinclair/Finlayson Ward Township of Lake of Bays 705-635-2101 [email protected] [email protected]
