Subject: Launching Project Porch Light Food Drive 2020 and other useful tidbits to share
Fellow Sinclair / Finlayson Residents; Here are some thoughts to share with you and ideally for you to share with your friends who for the first time may now be considering hunkering down at their cottages for the winter or at least for the next few months...... PROJECT PORCH LIGHT: DECEMBER 2, 2020 Mark your calendars: the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department in support of the Salvation Army is ramping up for the annual Project Porch light Food Drive. On Wednesday December 2 starting at 6:00 p.m., fire trucks, with the assistance of the O.P.P and E.M.S., will be coming house-to-house collecting healthy non-perishable food donations across our community. The Project Porch light Food Drive will be operating a little differently this year so it is very important that residents take note of the changes to accommodate social distancing guidelines for COVID-19. “We are asking residents to turn their porch light on and place their non-perishable donations at the end of their driveway or on their porch this year at 6:00pm,” notes Paul Calleja, Training and Suppression Captain for the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department. “In the past we have been able to knock on doors – but this year we are unable to do that. By placing your items at the end of your driveway or porch, it will assist us in keeping a safe social distance.” The Project Porch light Food Drive has been a community tradition for 32 years and has been an integral support for the Salvation Army who distributes the donations within the Huntsville/Lake of Bays community throughout the year. “2020 has been very challenging for so many. We are pleased, to be able to continue this community tradition this year specifically, when donations are needed more now than ever,” said Calleja. Bags for packing your food donations are available at various food stores throughout our communities. If you would rather drop food donations off in person, there will be bins placed outside the following locations during the day for drop offs: -Huntsville Fire Hall Station #1; 1 Payne Drive -The Salvation Army in Huntsville; 4 Mary Street E. -Port Sydney Fire Hall; 387 South Mary Lake Road and Lake of Bays Fire Halls: STN.30 1007 Limberlost Rd, STN.20 1230 Fox Point Rd. and STN.40 12 University St., Baysville. Its important for our residents to know that the donations from 'Operation Porch light' are distributed through The Salvation Army Huntsville Food Bank & Family Services and that their services INCLUDES Dwight and Baysville and as it is part of their catchment area, they can and do serve individuals and families from these areas, and not just at Christmas but all the time. * * * * * Short Term Rental Survey Thank you to everyone who showed their interest in the Township of Lake of Bays’ review of short-term rentals (STRs). There is a survey which is due Nov 20 2020. It would be wonderful if the residents of Lake of Bays participated in this survey which hopefully may be instrumental in bringing back passenger rail service to Huntsville. I will leave it up to you to decide whether it is worthwhile to have another means of residents and visitors to get back and forth from the city without the frustration of commuter traffic...and remember it could be those arriving from the airports in Toronto or North Bay....interested?...here's the survey link... https://www.ontario.ca/form/survey-transportation-opportunities-along-rail-corridor-northeastern-ontario “Survey: Transportation opportunities along the rail corridor in northeastern Ontario" Help us better understand the unique transportation needs of people and businesses along the rail corridor between Toronto, North Bay and Cochrane/Timmins. Your feedback will help inform our plan to improve the transportation system in northeastern Ontario. We will report back on what we heard in Winter 2021. This survey should take around 10 minutes to complete / Closing date: November 20, 2020” * * * * * Winter is coming and you had better be prepared As we have more property owners considering staying longer than normal, you know the ones....the ones who arrive about May 24th and leave at Thanksgiving, but this year perhaps came earlier and staying later and even considering staying the winter....well welcome, we're glad to have you staying....but...there are things you need to have considered.
As usual, I am available should you need anything, until then...Enjoy!
