Hello to our Oxbow Cottagers,
It seems that our newest critter on Oxbow is making itself known unfortunately: Received from a cottager on the East Arm: Today, a large coyote came on my property, killed and then ran off with one of my dogs, our beloved Jack. Devastating. My daughter saw it. Jack was tough despite his small size. He stood his ground. Two summers ago, he chased a black bear up a tree at our cottage. Today his bravery caught up with him. We think the coyote likely tracked us when we hiked to Little Hoover and back. Please be mindful of your pets and small children. Check this site for more tips: http://www.dogtales.ca/10-ways-to-protect-your-dog-from-coyotes/ Also with thanks to one of our cottagers on the West Arm: …we cleared and marked the trail to the beaver pond. (after Little Oxbow) It had become quite overgrown and difficult to see the way home. We made vertical orange marks on the trees to mark the walking trail. This symbol was requested by Tracey the person doing the Crown logging. He did not know there was a cottager hiking trail there. He is not working near it and will clear some of the tree tops from that area as well. The trail is now clear for both going and returning. The logging is still going on. The rainy weather and a couple other issues have prolonged this operation. **There are a few lake dues ($40) still to come in. Please take care of this as soon as you can! Thank you! For those of you who have headed home for the season, the colour is quite evident! It seems early this year but that may be because we are still waiting for summer?! With all the rain, the lake level is high at this point. Who knows what will happen at freeze up! Enjoy the fall! It’s a beautiful time to be on Oxbow!
